One Size Bamboo Nappy

Here are just some adavantages for using reusable nappies:

Very eco friendly compared to disposables (I’m not talking about eco disposables as they are ok – as long as they fully degrade – be careful as not all of them do!)

Baby is less prone to skin rash and allergies – disposables have chemicals so if your baby has sentive skin, or any skin ailment, disposables will not help matters.

Reusable nappies keeps baby cooler. It is common to think that because they are chunkier or bulkier, that they are hotter. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Disposables will keep the babies area hotter than any reusable nappy. There is a study by a University in Denmark that found a link between infertility in men related to disposable nappies. (I will find this article and post a link to it).

More natural, what I mean by this is that your are exposing your child to very little chemicals if not none (depending how you wash and what you use on your baby’s skin)

More economical. I can’t emphasize this enough. Our full time packs at the moment cost 307 euro (that is everything you need – you will only need to keep on buying the rolls of liners – which will not cost you more than 60 euro a year). That is a whopping saving of about 1500 per child.

It is estimated that a child uses anywhere between 5,000 and 6,000 nappies from birth to potty training.

You can reuse the nappies on your other children if you were to have more, or you can pass them on to someone that is having a child. Hence saving even more.

It has been proven by a report (I will update this post with the link to it) that the usage of reusable nappies is 40% better for the environment than using disposable nappies.

If you use reusable nappies and you think of other advantages, feel free to post!

Well, I’ve jumped in and got our blog up and running!
So…. welcome to Little Comfort’s Blog.
I hope we start up some nice discussions about the use of reusable nappies, cloth nappies or diapers, as called in the U.S.
We are based in Ireland, and we currently are the only Irish brand of reusable nappies.

Just to give you a bit of a background as to how Little Comfort came about. I will try and make it as short as possible.
While pregnant the thought of reusable nappies crossed my mind. All I got was “are you mad”, so I put it in the back of my mind, but at the same time I did a bit of research. Baby arrived, nappy overflow, cash being thrown into the bin (when there wasn’t much around in the first place!), literally. I thought, “no way jose”. I said to my Husband, we are using reusable nappies, this is ridiculous. So I started researching again, different brands, buying one of this, one of that. Before I knew it, I was critical of every nappy I purchased, however I got hooked and simply loved using reusable nappies. I thought “I can sew, and they are not difficult to make”.

Before I knew it, my daughter had a stash of nappies, designed by me and I loved them!

Next thought came along…. hmmmmm, no Irish brand? hmmmmmmm…. I see opportunity here to fill in the gap. So I did. I must say it was the most difficult project I have ever set out to do, escpecially with a small child. It was a very long and windy road (over a year) before I launched Little Comfort. With the great help of my Husband of course, which I could not have done any of this without his support.

Within the first year, we were finalists for nappy of the year in 2009, we were on TV 3 times with RTE 1 (Ireland’s main TV channel). You can actually see our appearances if you visit our website, www.littlecomfort.com

We have been so busy that we are struggling to keep up with demand. Thanks to the TV appearances we raised the awareness about reusable nappies in general. Most of the Irish population was not aware that they existed, how cool, funky and easy to use they are.

So here I am, in our second year and delighted to see how things are going, and finally getting round to setting up this blog!
